General Dental Council annual patient and public survey
In April 2011, the independent market research organisation
ComRes carried out a survey of the public and patients in the United Kingdom for the General Dental Council (GDC). The survey, the first of its kind, involved face to face interviews with a representative sample of UK residents about patient and public attitudes to the following issues:
• Public and patient usage of dentists;
• Attitudes to dental regulation;
• Awareness of dental regulation;
• Standards and dental professionalism;
• Dental indemnity and referrals.
Some questions in the survey were designed to allow comparison with responses to similar questions in the annual registrant survey (see below).
The GDC Gazette article summarises key findings from the survey and explains how the GDC is using the results to provide a sound evidence base for GDC policy and to improve performance.
The slide presentation provides graphs and tables and more details of the findings. The report, prepared by COMRES for the GDC, provides a comprehensive account of all the findings from the survey.
The survey was conducted with a sample of 1531 adults. The maximum margin of error for responses is plus or minus 2.5%.
General Dental Council annual registrant survey
In May/June 2011, the independent market research organisation Ipsos Mori carried out a survey of registered dental professionals for the GDC. Some questions in the survey were designed to allow comparison with responses to similar questions in the annual patient and public survey (see above).
The GDC Gazette article summarises key findings from the survey and explains how the GDC is using the results to provide a sound evidence base for GDC policy and to improve performance.
