Registration fee

The registration fee is the fee you pay to enter your name onto the Register.

It covers you from the month you are registered through to the end of the registration year. The fee and the dates of the registration year are different for dentists and dental care professionals (DCPs). The fee payable is dependent on the month your application is received at the GDC. However, payment will not be taken until your application has been checked and meets all requirements for registration.

How do I pay the fee?

You will find a payment section in your application form which you should complete before you return it, as incomplete forms cannot be processed.

Payments can be made by credit card/debit card, postal orders or cheque. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Switch, Solo, Electron and Maestro. Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to the General Dental Council - please write your full name on the reverse.

If you are enclosing original documents with your application and would like these returned by recorded delivery, please add £10 to your fee.

Do I pay this fee each year?

Each year you will need to pay the annual retention fee (ARF). If you do not pay the ARF you could be removed from the Register. Setting up a Direct Debit will ensure that your annual payment is made and minimise any risk should you forget to pay. You will find a Direct Debit mandate in your application form.

How much is the fee?

The fee you pay depends on your profession and when you send in your application form for registration. You can see how much you need to pay in the tables below.

Dental care professionals registering in June or July also need to pay the ARF. This is because the annual retention fee is due by 31 July.

Dentists registering in November or December also need to pay the ARF. This is because the annual retention fee is due by 31 December.
