GDC seeks Chief External Examiner and Dental/Medical Educationalist
The General Dental Council is seeking to recruit two individuals to key roles within the regulator to strengthen its work in patient protection.
Both roles are linked to the GDC’s Overseas Registration Exam (ORE). The ORE tests the clinical skills and knowledge of overseas-qualified dentists (non-European Economic Area) who wish to apply for GDC registration to be able to work in the UK.
A Chief External Examiner, who must be a GDC registered dentist, and a Dental or Medical Educationalist are sought for the ORE Advisory Group.
The Chief External Examiner will possess a good working knowledge of The First Five Years: A Framework for Undergraduate Dental Education and modern assessment methods, knowledge of QAA processes and standard setting for examinations.
The Dental or Medical Educationalist will have a good working knowledge of dental/medical undergraduate assessment processes and the regulatory framework in healthcare.

• Applicants for the Chief External Examiner role must be able to commit an average of 25 days per year for examining (including weekends) and a minimum of 2 days for training. This role is offered for an initial period of 3 years and the possibility of extension to 5 years.
• Applicants for the Dental or Medical Educationalist role must be able to commit up to 8 days per year for attendance at meetings and training. The appointment is for an initial period of 3 years and the possibility of extension to 5 years.
